About the Exhibition:
Studio Quercus is pleased to present Red Hot Chili Water: A Creative Growth Staff Show, a group exhibition featuring works in a variety of mediums by faculty and staff of Creative Growth in Oakland. The exhibition is on view November 1 to December 14, 2013, and participating artists will be present at the opening reception on Saturday, November 9th, from 4 to 6pm.
Since 1973, Creative Growth has played a significant role in increasing public interest in the artistic capabilities and achievements of people with disabilities. Serving adult artists with developmental, mental, and physical disabilities, they provide a professional studio environment for artistic development, gallery exhibition and representation, and a social atmosphere among peers—all facilitated by a talented group of artists.
Curated by Studio Quercus's Susan Casentini, Kyle Milligan, and Emil Barber, Red Hot Chili Water showcases works by 19 artists, all staff and faculty of Creative Growth. Running the gamut of styles and modalities, the exhibition features painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, assemblage, and fashion, including an installation by Michael Hall titled Through Failure Comes Possibility, made from a series of sandbags fashioned from failed paintings and stacked to make a fort.
